Colleagues, I write to congratulate you for being elected as MISA Zambia National Governing Council (NGC) members.
I am sure you shall deliver as I have personally trusted the capacity of each one of you to do so.
I am also assuring you of my relentless support and backing to ensure that you even do better than what we did.
As we face the 2011 general elections, you should commit yourselves to the freedom of the human spirit and not to political parties.
Contribute to having a Zambia which will be a haven where people can exchange words without suspecting ill-will; where we can allow the freedom of expression to reach high levels in order to serve the poor and disadvantaged in communities.
For me, the battle is closed. I am thankful to all the members for the deliberations, laughter and fights we fought hand in hand.
I found a family to which loins are connected. I will go down the grave knowing we fought for a cause worth not only being imprisoned for but also dying for.
Thanks very much and Bye!!!
Last Friday, the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia ushered in office a new board which comprises five elected board members and two co-opted members from the accounting and legal professions.
The new board was elected during the MISA Zambia Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Garden House Hotel in Lusaka yesterday.
This followed the organisation’s adoption of proposed constitutional amendments that included a reduction in the number of board members, inclusion of other professions on the board and an increase by one year to the tenure of office for the NGC from the previous two years.
The previous board had nine elective NGC positions all eligible to media personnel and an office term of two years.
Daniel Sikazwe who is Director of a private owned communications company African Passions is new Chairperson.
Other elected members as Nalumino Nalumino who is the Station Manager for Radio Maranatha based in Kabwe as its new Vice Chairperson.

RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION TO STEP DOWN AS MISA ZAMBIA CHAIRPERSON
When the fraud allegations against me and others concerning K70million meant for a Save the Children Sweden project were put in the public’s domain, I resolved to remain diplomatic in order to iron out the issues within the confines and the best interests of the organizations that were mentioned.
However, it has become apparently clear that some people will stop at nothing until they see my downfall. The latest illegal, unconstitutional demand by the trustees that I step down is one such example. My silence is being taken as a sign of weakness.
It is interesting to note that before 08 00 hours of October 27, 2010 (yesterday), people had known that I had not yet responded to the letter written by the trustees to have me step down.
This means the letter was intentionally leaked to the people and later to the press to finish what they started in February this year.
I must mention that my being at the helm of MISA Zambia has become a challenge because we journalists seem to cherish illegalities and immature conduct by leaking information meant to help us do our work better. And, we can easily be bought.
Briefly, the Save the Children Sweden project was initially supposed to be done by the Media Network on Child Rights and Development (MNCRD).
If you journalists took the challenge of investigating this matter, you should have noted that the letter requesting for K65million, the concept note and the budget were written by the MNCRD (me).
Since the MNCRD and Save the Children have a long standing relationship and there was a project running, funds were used to host a meeting at the Lusaka Hotel, which was supposed to take place before the 20th Anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), November 20, 2009.
Some funds for things like transport refunds were taken from my bank account to ensure that the programme which was planned for took place. About five journalists attended that Child Focus Group Discussion.
However, when Save the Children was auditing the MNCRD, it saw it necessary not to deposit money in the MNCRD’s bank account and opted to use MISA Zambia. The contract between Save the Children Sweden and MISA Zambia was signed in December, 2009.
Since one activity had taken place before the contract was signed in November 2009 and funds were subsequently disbursed, the MNCRD later requested MISA Zambia to refund it for the funds used for the programme held at the Lusaka Hotel.
This is what people have been calling fraud and other sorts of names.
The auditors have noted that the MNCRD’s work on the project signed by MISA Zambia and Save the Children Sweden may show that I influenced MISA Zambia to give the contract to MNCRD.
The simple facts I have highlighted have been ignored every time this issue is discussed.
Note that:
MISA Zambia never wrote a proposal or concept note to Save the Children Sweden; no donor can give money to an entity that has not requested for it.
The letter requesting for K65million sitting at Save the Children Sweden has the MNCRD letterhead.
MISA Zambia was given an additional K5million to do the administration work for the requested for project to make it K70million.
I could not have done anything intentional to take advantage of the funds because I originally wrote the concept note for a budget of K65million to Save the Children Sweden.
The National Governing Council (NGC) dealt with this matter in February this year.
It is tempting for any evil minded person to use this situation to tarnish the image of a person.
There are laid down procedures in the MISA Zambia Constitution which members must follow to remove the chairperson of the organisation. The chairperson is not removed through a press statement.
Way forward:
I have instructed my lawyer to take necessary action.
I will not be part of the meeting called by trustees this Friday since the letter was served with instructions that a statement be done to announce my removal and that is what happened. My image has already been gravely tarnished.
I have decided not to attend this meeting because the procedure under which this meeting has been called is meant to rectify the mistake made by the trustees to convince the NGC to remove me.
Despite misbehavior by some media institutions, I will always believe in self-regulation of the media in Zambia.
Last, I would like to thank people that have been praying, encouraging and assuring me.
I appeal to all MISA Zambia members to remain calm and ensure that the organisation remains vibrant.

MISA Zambia National Governing Council (NGC) suspends Henry Kabwe from the position of Chairperson
In view of the finding raised in the final MISA Zambia audit report for the year ended 31st March 2010, and following a meeting held between the MISA Zambia Trustees and the MISA Zambia National Governing Council (NGC), at the MISA Zambia Secretariat on Friday, 30th July 2010, a decision to suspend Mr. Henry Kabwe as Chairperson of the MISA Zambia forthwith has been endorsed. The NGC has invoked the powers vested in it by Article 7.6 of the MISA Zambia Constitution, which states: “The NGC in best interest of MISA Zambia shall have the power to suspend any paid up member, pending investigations by an ad hoc committee whose final recommendations shall be considered and approved by the AGM or Extra-Ordinary General Meeting.” The NGC has further appointed Mr. Joseph Brown Mkandawire, who is the incumbent Chairperson for Print Media, to act as Chairperson of MISA Zambia until the next AGM.

St. Andrew's school show off career choices in clothes
By Felix Kashweka
St. Andrew’s School of Lusaka recently held its careers day. The day saw a number of pupils dressed in attires that symbolised the career paths they want to pursue.
In an interview with the Education Post, school manager Benson Kapenda said the school holds this day in order to know and encourage pupils on what career to pursue.
“As a school, we hold this day so as to see the careers our pupils want to trail. I am happy to see pupils clad in different clothing symbolising the career they want to take-up. From last year, we have seen pupils from this school putting on the same clothes, showing that they are committed with their careers,” said Kapenda.
And among the people invited to speak to pupils about their career choices was Muvi TV Zed-Kids News editor Mabvuto Phiri who explained to the pupils who want to take up journalism as a career what it takes to be a good journalist.
“In journalism, there are a lot of specialties, so for you to become a journalist you have to be attentive in class when the teacher is teaching be it science, mathematics, religious education and so on,” Mabvuto said.
He also added that journalists are accorded opportunities to meet and conduct interviews with a lot of icons.
“If you are a journalist, you have a chance of meeting and interviewing very important people. For you to be a high-quality reporter, you have to be determined and serious, and an example of a journalist in class is a monitor he/she monitors on what happens in class and gives a report on what happened,” explained Mabvuto.
And eight-year-old Sangulukani Nyoni clad as an Army General Commander said she chose her career path as a commander because she wants to defend the country from outside attacks.
“I chose the career of being an army general commander because I want to defend the country; I am so happy that our school holds a careers day because we are given a chance to show what we want to be in the future,” said Sangulukani.
And Immaculate Mwelwa a pupil at the same school dressed as an attorney explained about her career.
“I want to become an attorney (Lawyer). This is because I want to bring freedom for all and defend fairly. I want to make sure people that are wrong are punished,” Immaculate said.
Immaculate added that being part of the careers day has taught her how to become a good lawyer.
“I have been told that you have to be a religious person and also have to be honest because the career is all about being honest,” said Immaculate.

To all bloggers here …
I am a very proud Zambian native, born and raised. I left Zambia on the urging of my mother, to be educated at a properly recognized University. In this case, I successfully received my undergraduate degree and MBA at Princeton University and, further, post graduate PhD at the Harvard. I have spent all of my life in the banking business … at all levels including retail, wholesale, investment, international, executive and Director. In the last 35 years, I have spent my life at the highest levels of the Western – European monetary system. I would include my numerous professional credentials but most might have difficulty believing a black Zambian would be able to accomplish so much and be appropriately credentialed to do so.
In my later years, I considered myself fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Yes, the good Dr. is a very highly regarded worldwide as a professional international banker, businessman, devote Christian and ethical, moral man. Outside of the small minded persons claiming they know all about Mahtani, his ill deeds, all of the theives in banking, in business and have a deep seated desire to actually opine about the inner workings of a bank including all of the all of the preposterous expert business opinions and conclusions written here, it might be good to know that only in Zambia is someone is going to mention ghosts accounts, illegal stock transfers, and all of the other supposed misdeeds … all for the unfortunate listening ears of the uneducated, unemployed, sick, starved and dying people of Zambia who have a vote.
When will the demoralizing, verbal diatribe stop. When will the reputation of good, hardworking people stop which would help make Zambia a wonderful place to live, work and raise families.
This is Zambia, my country. Yet, Zambia is one of the laughing stocks in the third world … why, we have the resources to be a very productive country with excellant governance but, due to a few on top elected people making moves the rest of the civilized world saw and eschewed hundreds of years ago, our citizens are being deprived of the blessings the rest of the world takes for granted.
If I may, let me provide one insight, even though someone will believe this is a false statement and say “not here, our politicians would never …”.
Consider this … a guy that is a former corrupt President, who is being held accountable by the international courts for pillaging the Nation of Zambia, makes friends with the current President of Zambia.
The current President needs votes to stay President in the upcoming election, in exchange for those votes from his region the current President grants the former President immunity for the theft of the Countries assets and anything else known or not known … which assets are locked down in foreign banks waiting for our Government to claim them … and a vicious shot at one of the most vehement voices for Zambia, that person being Dr. Rajan Mahtani, for the vengeance of the TRUTH and embarrassment Mahtani has brought forth about the former President, and with timing being everything, the current President goes out of the Country “on business”.
The newly immutized former President, whilst the current Preisdent is out of the Country, builds a new soapbox and spews his own brand of garbage and stirs up the political pot in the media so that everyone is concentrated on Finance Bank, Mahtani. Credit Suisse, and other garbage … excuse me … making comments on everything from the Mahtani, finance Bank, Credit Suisse, the Clergy, the church, other politicians and the mother next door to aunt of somebody important who spanked the dog two years ago which is contravention of somebody’s animal rights viewpoint.
With the Zambian people experiencing what looks like an Latin daytime television soap opera show (some have stated this is a political system meltdown)and all of the ignorant Zambians are at home watching television or listening to the radio while eating Bon Bons and soaking in all of the supposedly important news … excuse me, gossip … misinformation … misdirection … and outright lies from people that do not have a basis for which to speak except the media needs something interesting to report while the current President is out of town.
Then, after all of the damage is spewed and properly placed in the media, the newly immutized former President quietly leaves the country for “personal medical issues” as the current President quietly comes home from his important diplomatic junket claiming all sort of successes and looking Regal. It is amazing that the current President is totally clear of everything that has happened during his “diplomatic business trip” including the silencing of a significant voice of Mahtani, an extremely potent and privately outspoken voice of TRUTH for the Zambian people, the catholic church and all other oponents of the current administration.
I bet if you look through the President window at night you might see him sitting at his desk soaking in all of the mayhem in the street, while easily calculating his next set of political moves to gain more years in office.
Does this resemble the current situation? Kaos, manipulation, political mayhem, back door deals, desruction of highly credentailed persons in politics and business, the attacks on the clergy, the church, the good standing members of that church and the one item that everyone just loves to hear about … SEX?
Does it seem odd that everyone on the side of TRUTH is currently under the highest level criminal charges, scruntiny for supposed ethics violations of family members and who they might have had sex relations with.
Let’s take a look. From first hand knowledge and experience, I can state that Dr. Rajan Mahtani is extremely and highly regarded in the international community including ALL of the major world banks, the Federal Reserve, the World Bank, The International Monetary Fund, which entities bring numerous dollars to this Africian region due to Mahtani’s efforts. Mahtani is also regarded by numerous foriegn governments as a strong voice for Zambia and this region. He is a Havard Law Graduate, a chartered account and he uses all of those skill sets to shape highly successful companies most of which he commenced from nothing or acquired for nothing and if acquired, he acquired with the assistance of professional people having the ability to correctly analyze the the true calculated worth of the entity. More than likely, Mahtani viewed the companies as having national potential, then more than likelt than the members of the ill managed companiy at the point of acquisition.
Which might just bring us to the current cement company issue. Trust me when I tell you that Mahtani doesn’t need a very silly cement plant … why would he buy it? The answer might just lay as the cornerstone to the hundreds and thousands of houses he proposed to build so that Zambians would have better and adaquate housing. This means infra-structure; water plants; power plants; highways and roads; agriculture to feed Zambians including import and export to our surrounding Brothers and Sister in land locked barren lands; professional and trade education and employment for those desiring a better way in life; financing for companies borrowing to expand their current operation or venture capital and loans for start-ups; the flow of dollars for commerce and micro-trade. Remember the hotels plans; golf courses; the beautiful country we live in with all of the wonderful natural and magnificient sites … you dont think agriculture is going to attract visitors who spend millions AND LEAVE MILLIONS of revenue dollars in our country.
People of Zambia don’t call an educated man, an extremely intelligent man, a full blooded Zambian of Indian Decent whom says nothing about his misgivings about corrupt people and organizations including our most highly elected officials like Chiluba, and his current set of political friends. This man has done nothing to any Zambian except improve the Nation of Zambia, with his own money earned as profits from his hand built business enterprises. In addition, he has been a relentless proponent of Zambia to the outside world and all of it’s people and offerings.
Let’s look at the Maize deal: Mahtani puts it together, gives it to Chiluba, Chiluba “steals” it, makes his own deal for personal financial gain, Chiluba knows he is going to be caught and then blames it on Mahtani. Mahtani stands his ground for the TRUTH and for the Zambian people then he is forced to speaks out due to Mahtani’s outrage as the deal was for food for Zambians, then gets thrown in prison for treason for four months for having the truth about Chiluba and his willingness to speak out. Chiluba’s is held accountable in a international court for his mid deeds.
Chiluba comes back, spends time making the rounds and makes a deal with the current President and other government officals. An opportunity for Chiluba and the President, when a party to the sale and acquisition of a cement company makes a complaint that Mahtani “steals” shares of a cement company (please explain to this sophisticated writer) and everyone under the sun including a secretary and a security guard are charged for crimes in a raid having to do with a stock transfer. Obviously, the the lowly secretary and the security guard were part of the acquisition team of professionals and they helped structure the deal so that the shares could be stolen. Are yo people reading this? Are you mistified? Are you worried this could happen to you if you open your mouth about something? Is this happening in Zambia … the country I love and have equally fought for?
In the meantime, Mahtani is charged with approximately 200 crimnal charges and is told by governments officials that he needs to dismantle his bank and sell a vast amount of his business assets he commenced from scratch with his own funds. Meanwhile, all is well for the media spins which amazingly enough occur in favor of Chiluba and the Current President which sets the foundation for the upcoming election.
The second most powerful voice is the church and it’s members which could swing the votes if the church was involved in such things. They are attacked in the most vicious way posible … with allegations that can not be eliminated by specific answers.
I am making a powerful statement for your consideration: OUR POLITICIANS ARE CORRUPT, ARE DOING IT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES AND ARE SUCKING THE LIFEBLOOD AND THE WELL BEING OF ALL ZAMBIANS COUNTRYWIDE. STAND UP … BE ACCOUNTED FOR … MAKE YOUR DISLIKE OF THE CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION KNOWN. TAKE CHARGE FOR THEY CAN”T JAIL ALL OF US WITH A SINGLE STRONG VOICE.
We are losing the international war for dollars by virtue of the stupidity, the blinded eyes of our people and the lack of productive leadership. These people need to go away, get some international experience and only after they have spent a deade or so, then that can get into the business of politics. We could be prosperous could be prosperous but a few are getting in the way for their own political gain.
By the Way, who is holding government accountable for the hundred of millions Chiluba stole and is current being in world international courts? Why hasn’t our current President made comments and or made overtures to collect the funds from the Courts? Is it possible those monies are in play with the former President – current President relationship?
I’m tired.

I’m tired.

MMD Cadres Block Lusaka's Freedom Way
Confusion reigned in Lusaka today, (16th June, 2010) after MMD cadres blocked freedom way to signify the triumphant entry of their Acting provincial Chairperson, William Banda.
Several cadres from various parts of the Province had been trooped to Lusaka’s Plaza one Cinema for the launch of the mobilization plan dubbed thirty-twenty-four operation.
And addressing the cadres Mr. Banda warned the opposition to desist from unwarranted attacks on President Rupiah Banda.
He said the people of Zambia must continue supporting the MMD because it is the only party founded on tenets of democracy despite negative publicity by some sections of the media in the country.
And the Zambia police has warned the MMD cadres who blocked part of Lusakas Cha Cha Cha road of stern action if they attempt to block the road again.
Police Spokesperson Bonny Kapeso tells Muvi TV News that police will not allow the situation to repeat itself.
Mr. Kapeso says there is need for the suspected cadres to respect the law adding that no one will be allowed to hold any meeting without a police permit.

ZAMBIA BEAT HERVE RENARD'S ANGOLA AT THE DEFUNCT HISTORICAL STADIUM
Zambia's Chipolopolo Boys rekindled their history yesterday(Wendesday) when they returned to the defunct, Lusaka's Independence Stadium to host Angola ahead of this weekend's CHAN 2011 qualifier against South Africa.
Substitute Makundika Sakala scored for Zambia as the George Lwandamina side beat Herve Renard's Angola at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium to the joy of the fans that trooped to the stadium in large numbers to rally behind the Chipolopolo with a makeshift Grandstand.
The two sides were level at 0-0 in the first half in the match that marked former Zambian coach Herve Renard’s first international meeting against his ex-team since joining Angola earlier this year.
Nkwazi winger Mwepya Kasongo was the darling of the famous ‘Gate D’ staunch fans, which was filled to capacity when at least 15 soccer fans were crushed to death and 52 others injured during a stampede after Zambia's victory over Sudan in a World Cup qualifying game in 1996.
In 2004, the stadium was closed by the then national sports minister citing safety concerns due to the age and status of the building.
Angola are in Zambia to utilise the artificial turf to prepare for their must-win CHAN assignment against Malawi, who held them to a 1-1 draw, in the first leg match held in Luanda.
And In a post-march interview, Renard higly rated Zambia's chances of qualifying to Sudan 2011.
But his opposite number, George Lwandamina maintained that his team is on course to beat South Africa.
Zambia takes on South Africa trailing one-nil needing a two-nil unanswered scoreline to secure a berth at the 2011 Sudan CHAN Championship.

PRESIDENT BANDA CONDEMNES TRIBAL POLITICS
Rupiah Banda, President of the Republic of Zambia, on Thursday condemned the emerging culture of tribal politics saying tribalism is a cancer that will destroy the country if condoned.
The President said it was disheartening to see politicians sink so low as to be debating tribal politics in this modern era at the expense of developmental issues. The President said it was not possible for him to appoint a cabinet of 73 people in order to have all the tribes in Zambia to be represented in cabinet. He said cabinet ministers are appointed on merit regardless of tribe, race, sex and creed as per Zambian constitution.
President Banda said he felt vindicated by comments attributed to Paramount Chief Mpezeni that he has not appointed a Ngoni in his cabinet. President Banda, who is Chewa/Ngoni by tribe, said the comments by Paramount Chief Mpezeni showed that he was not a tribalist because he has not appointed a single cabinet minister from his own tribe.
The President said the media should also avoid giving prominence to tribal remarks as they have the potential of sparking hatred and violence as witnessed in a number of countries. The President appealed to his Cabinet Ministers and ruling party officials to avoid getting involved in tribal politics.
President Banda also challenged the media to do a thorough scrutiny at State House and see whether it was true insinuations by some politicians that he has appointed his tribesmen in key positions in his office. He said almost all provinces are represented at State House at very senior level.
The statement was issued by SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT
